Are there not enough talented US gymnasts??? OK granted, that is Alaska, but I see other schools signing gymnasts from England, Canada, Mexico. Is there a shortage of US gymnasts, or a lack of quality?? What's up?

What would be the positive aspects of someone taking this program over at this point? I hear everyone mentioning the negative things and the challenges. Are there any benefits that would make sense for a coach to leave their current program to take over at Georgia??

Sorry to hear about Jay Clark, I certainly wish him the best.

Though the focus is on Alabama in the first entry, in the second entry, I talk about the individual winners, such as Kat Ding of Georgia and Kyra Hunter of Florida in the second entry. Basically, these are general sports entries meant for people who are not as familiar with college gymnastics as everyone here is. Of course, that might be a slight cop-out on my part because explaining a front tuck-out is a bit complicated:)

Incoming Pioneers Post Successful Weekend at J.O.'s

Six incoming freshman for Denver showed very well at last weekend's J.O. meets.

Emily Barrett: finished in a tie for eighth in the all-around at Session D of last weekend's J.O. Championships, headed by her 11th-place 9.525 on vault.

Rachel Feeken: finished in a tie for second on bars in Session D, tallying a 9.600 on the event.

Maggie Laughlin: finished tied for fourth on bars (9.550) and tied for 10th on floor (9.600) in Session D.

Katie Menhinick: finished 24th on beam and 27th on vault and bars in Session D.

Morgan Tolman: finished second in the all-around (37.000) at Session D of the JO NIT, led by a 9.500 on floor title.

Madison Kilchrist: finished 10th in the all-around (36.750) at Session C of the JO NIT, taking top 10 finishes on beam and floor.

Awesome results for Bama recruits at J.O. Nationals

The results at J.O. Nationals for the 5 future Bama gymnasts competing were outstanding. Some highlights are below.

Incoming freshmen for next year:

Lauren Beers - finished 2nd in Senior-D All Around, 1st on bars, 1st on floor. If not for a fall on one element of her very difficult beam routine, Lauren would've been the J.O. national champion by a comfortable margin.
Carley Sims - finished 4th in Senior-D All Around, 1st on vault, 4th on bars

Future years:

Rachel Daum (2014) - finished 3rd All Around in Senior-B, and top 5 on vault, beam, and floor
Katie Bailey (2014) - placed 3rd on beam, 4th on floor in Senior-A

Aja Sims (2015) - Aja showed off !! She is the J.O. National Champion in Junior-D, and also finished 1st on bars (9.75), beam (9.7), and floor (9.725)

Winning back to back national...

With it being the weekend of JO Nationals, and Georgia doesn't have a coach or coaches there recruiting, scouting talent, etc., this is just not a good time for a program to be without a staff. It honestly could set the program back an entire year just because they will be behind.

Basically the most important kids they are looking at would be the kids that graduate in 2014 and beyond since they are pretty much done recruiting for this fall and 2013. So the new coach won't have their own recruits in until Fall of 2014 and it could be tough since they will be behind due to the timing of all of this. It will be interesting to watch how that class for them pans out.

As a fan of the Gymdog I am saddened by all of this. I just hope whoever takes over does not have to much ego and can embrace what Suzanne did and employ her help. She was and still is involved with the boosters the alumni the fans and the team. She is a marketing genius and one of the best motivators in the sport. Although she has stated she will not return I am sure she would help any new coach coming in and help the team now just whoever takes over take her ADVICE!

1. When people refer to a gymnast having "flexed feet" (with a negative connotation) or "bad feet"/"sloppy feet" when performing a skill, what are they specifically talking about? Can someone please explain or point to pictures/video of correct and incorrect foot position?
