Under appreciated gymnasts? |

Which NCAA gymnasts do you think were underappreciated for whatever reason? The one I would have to mention is Malia Jones on the floor exercise. She had
showmandship beside nice dance and form and did justice to Val's unique choreography. She was constantly in fluid movement. But there were so many good
gymnasts during her time at UCLA, i.e.Moneymaker, Degteva, Mohini, Jamie D, Yvonne Tousek, Alyssa Beckerman, Kristen Maloney, etc. that she just didn't
stand out. Now that UCLA has their own channel and a whole host of UCLA gymnasts previously unreleased, there are some great routines there. But check out
Malia.

The girl does some of the most unique, biggest and most difficult skills in the country. I really hope she is rewarded for it her senior year.

I may be a little biased since I am a Michigan fan, but I think that Sarah Curtis was passed over this year. She may not have had an amazing "OH MY"
season, but she was the only one on the team to compete all around in every single meet, keep her all around fairly consistent as she was moved up into the
beginning of some of the line ups (i think to start the team off on a consistent note since they didn't have any real depth due to injuries this year), and
made it as an all around competitor to Nationals. She was also named to the 1st team all big ten team, and to the ESPN second team.
Sarah didn't get a whole lot of recognition this year, on a national or really a michigan level, but I have no doubt that Michigan could have done as well as they did without her... so thank you Sarah! Kylee Botterman also had a beautiful floor routine that finally began to get notice towards the end of the year and really helped out in the AA. Thanks Kylee! I agree with Daria though, she is amazing and I still don't know why her vault doesn't get scored... it is beautiful! |

Lissy was so beautiful on beam and so consistent! I like Raegan's lines on everything, but I really liked her beam as well. Also, she was one of my
daughter's camp counselors and really inspired her to try some new things.

I remember being amazed at how good she is on every event, and the amplitude on all of her skills. In my opinion she has the best double arabian in collegiate
gymnastics.

I must agree with Tolnay! Between how well she locks out her handstands on bars and can hold them straight up for an eternity, to the shear amplitude of her
leaps, jumps and tumbling on beam and floor. Pretty jam up vault too!!!! ;) considering all of her All American titles and her significant contributions to the
team, she had probably the most amazing NCAA gymnast as her classmate...needless to say, the spotlight was usually on Court, not Tiff. For this same reason, I
feel that Grace Taylor is under appreciated by many...She has amazing technique, beauty, and grace on all three of her events and on top of that, she uses
unique and difficult skills to achieve it!

Short of picking on her floor commentary, I've seen mostly positive comments about her contributions to the team, acknowledgement of her great power and
clean gymnastics - and I know for a fact she always goes very, very high in symgym picks.

I feel that Tiffany is highly respected but I feel that at times, she was not appreciated as much as she might have been had she been a year or two younger or
older at UGA. I felt like the spotlight was often on Katie Heenan and Courtney Kupets the last two years and she sometimes had to fight from behind the
shadows.

Nicole Ourada has thrown some of the more difficult skills in the Stanford lineup, and was rarely mentioned. She came in as a good L10 (who, I believe, had
done some junior intl elite meets and then went back to L10) who improved while at Stanford and contributed in AA almost every meet. She will be sorely missed,
even if her quiet presence was unheralded. Also just a sweet person whose parents as just as lovely and low-key.

She's been a team leader for LSU and has gotten accolades, but IMO not enough relative to what she has accomplished.

card wrote: Nicole's vault was very nice; her bars were great when she threw the Tkachev; her two layouts on beam were gorgeous; and her piked full-in on floor was awesome. She was definitely a quiet backbone for the team (which becomes obvious when you look at the meets Stanford tended to "melt down" in, they are the meets Ourada didn't perform up to par) and she'll be missed! |
