I agree that the judges often judge themselves into a corner unnecessarily.  They need to have more foresight when judging the earlier parts of rotations and more awareness of what it means to award a 10.  A 10 has to mean something more than just "this vault was more difficult than the one we just gave a 9.95 to." A 10 has to mean "this is unbeatable."  If that means giving both Gutierrez and Milliner 9.95s, even though Milliner's was more difficult, then that's fine.  That's the better solution and is more reflective of the code.      

Exactly. While I thought a few of the vaults were overscored, I was fine with Gutierrez's vault scoring around a 9.95. She had a beautiful, big, stuck Yfull, but it also was not perfect. Just because Milliner did a more difficult vault and stuck it, doesn't mean that it should automatically be given a 10. IMO, both vaults were great, but both had small errors. Really, I've felt that all 3 of the 10s that I know of given  thus far were questionable. Zam's because of the landing, Milliner's because of the knees, and Stack-Eaton's because it could have been more dynamic, even though it was technically perfect. In all 3 cases though, the judges backed themselves into a corner throwing out big scores early on and then feeling like they had to go up. It shouldn't keep happening.
