Registered Member Posts: 2685 08/26/08 04:09 PM Double Layout Punch Front	Tags : ucla, utah, florida, ncaa, rankings, uga, alabama, michigan Cmon, folks, let's get out of the doldrums and predict the top six in the nation! My predicted Super Six finish (teams and in order): 1) Florida - I just think everything is going to finally come together for them. 2) UGA - Something's gotta give somewhere along the line, though I won't count out the SY factor in her final year. 3) UCLA - Sooner or later, they have to stay healthy. And this year's incoming frosh should give a HUGE boost. 4) Utah - Will be really solid, but just outside of the top three, I think. 5) Alabama - Could be higher, but will be relying on a lot of frosh and sophomores. 6) Michigan - The Wolverines are due to make it back to the Super Six, and should be really competitive this year.

Utah (They seem to re-load every year, though they are going to miss AP) 4. LSU 5. Oregon State (They didn't lose many routines and are reloading) 6.Oklahoma Others in the mix: Michigan, Arkansas, Standford (how will they survive all their seniors leaving), Nebraska as the home team, UCLA (lots of routines to replaces and injuries seem to follow them around), Denver, Washington is coming on strong... Will be interesting to see how things start shaking out this year. The senior class of last year had some pretty big names that are now gone, so I think the players may change a bit... I just don't see UGA getting any weaker. Go Beavs!

Registered Member Posts: 147 08/26/08 06:47 PM	Maybe I am a WEEE bit biased but I feel confident that LSU will be in the top 6! They cracked top 5 last year and only lost 3 routines, 2 of them being lead offs. They will be just as strong as last year if not stronger! Jackson really came into her own and should start off where she left off. With her and ACK, that is a great 1-2 punch. I don't know a lot about our incoming freshman but I've heard great things. She should contribute!

But some thoughts on some of the teams: Georgia-I don't think they are as strong as last year when comparing the seniors they lost and the incoming freshmen. But they will definitely be up there and could win again! Florida-They also had a strong senior class to replace but they have a good incoming class. I think they will be just as good if not better than last year! Utah-I actually don't think they will be as strong as they were last year, but definitely still right up at the top. It's hard to replace AP! Stanford-I think they take the biggest hit from losing their senior class. A good incoming class, but not as strong as the seniors they lost. They will have a tough time matching their results, but I could see them making the super six LSU-I think they will be just as good if not better! Lost one gymnast, gained a very strong one and return lots of talent. Alabama-They should be very strong this year and with such talented freshmen, I think they should move up for sure and be right at the top. UCLA-they should make a huge improvement this year. They lost Tasha which is huge but they have a large and amazing freshmen class! They should make their way back into the super six and have no depth problems. Oklahoma-I think they will improve a lot this year and could challenge for a super six spot. Good talent coming in. Oregon State-They should also be stronger next year with a good freshmen class and not losing too much. Could challenge for super six spot as well.

Registered Member Posts: 282 08/26/08 10:50 PM	One team that could surprise people is Washington. Samantha Walior and Haley Bogart were very impressive freshman this past year. They could become good team leaders for the improving Huskies. Oklahoma is one that should be watched. They have a great depth of talent that seems to go unnoticed quite often. Oh, yeah! Don't count out Arkansas! Only two seniors lost and six returning sophomores (juniors in '09) from last year's nationals-qualifying squad should lead to greater heights.

Really, the only thing keeping Arkansas out of the Super Six was a little bit of beam trouble and not enough high-end score on floor. I like where that team will be this year. I also like where Oklahoma and LSU will be working from. But I was trying to predict a top six? Cmon, folks. Be bold. Try.

Registered Member Posts: 258 08/27/08 08:03 AM Giant Gym Fan	Georgia, Michigan, Utah, LSU, Oregon State, UCLA are my Super 6 picks. I also like Florida, Arkansas, Stanford and Oklahoma to make it to the NCAAs. I also think Arizona is going to rebound this year with 5 healthy seniors and a freshman class that will bring some depth to all 4 events. Not sold on Washington yet. They will need to show me something before I buy into that program as they never seem to meet expectations, but I would like to see that happen as it only makes the Pac 10 better. My dark horse to make it to Nationals is Boise State. It just depends on the luck of the draw at Regionals.

There still the champ and the return of CKup will be a lift to a team that does not need much help. 2. Florida... Tempted to put them #1 but, will keep UGA there just because of experience. 3. 'Bama... One paper they have a ton of "horsepower" and they won't struggle at Nats 3 years in a row. 4. LSU... Now that they have cracked the Super Six this veteran team becomes a real dark horse pick for the title. 5. Arkansas... It is about time to stop calling this fast-rising program a surprise and just call them a player on the national scene. 6. Auburn... It may not seem to be Auburn w/o Julie Dwyer but Lindsey Puckett is ready to step up. Dark Horse pick from Bluegrass Country. 7. Kentucky... People underestimate UK because of their brutal schedule. Just wait and see what they look like in regionals.

Kentucky is a bit of a stretch, but that's what makes them a dark horse. Auburn is that team we perennially expect to be in the mix, but somehow they always dissapoint. To contend, veterans like Krissy Voss are going to have to step up their game and pick up for Dwyer's absence. I'm not picking on Krissy, as she had a nice year, but she and others are going to need to score better than their usual 9.7s if they are going to contend. Still, not so crazy in my mind.

I was going to poke at him myself, but didn't get to it. As I say every year, I will say again, I would be thrilled to see a "new" team take home the championship any year, even if it meant my team loosing a heartbreaker. If you had asked me 5 years ago, I would have predicted it happening before now. I think it is one of the biggest "liabilities" NCAA gymnastics has that only 4 teams have ever won it - from an outsiders point of view I imagine. I am delighted to see teams like Arkansas and Kentucky looking stronger and stronger. I also think that one of these years the Gators are certainly going to finally make it to the top of the podium. And, as usual I am too reserved in my opinion of my opinion to post any predictions for final standings. Best wishes to all the teams again this year. May they be as strong and injury free as possible. After the head-scratching scoring of the Olympics I am ready to welcome back the relatively less (IMO) controversial scoring debates that usually happen around here.

I think that Georgia's incoming freshmen will more than adequately replace Georgia's senior class. Megan Dowlen and Audrey Bowers contributed little in terms of routines their senior year. Childs while gorgeous to watch on the beam struggled with consistency much of the past year on both bars and beam. The biggest loss is obviously Katie Heenan. It sounds like Amber will be able to replace Katie on Vault and Floor. Gina should be in in the bars lineup, if not the floor and vault lineups as well. Georgia will remain deep on beam. Kupets will be returning with what I'm sure will be a vengence Georgia will be tough to beat. My wild stab in the dark as to their beginning of the year lineups: V Burns? Box? Sessler? Nuccio? Registered Member Posts: 394 08/28/08 08:15 AM Super Gym Fan	There did not seem to be much buzz about the Big 12 other than occasional comments about Oklahoma and Nebraska. What about Oklahoma? They seem to keep lingering right at the top waiting to make a really big splash. Nebraska always seems solid and they are hosting Nationals which should help. Iowa State has to avoid the injury bug to keep it in the upper rankings. Missouri seems like they are ready to plant themselves as a regular in the upper rankings. Which ones do you expect to make the Final 12? We are thrilled to have nationals in Lincoln this year. Hopefully, it bring a boost of interest for all the Midwest programs. It will certainly help if several of the Big 12 teams do well in regionals and are represented in Lincoln. It won't hurt that a regional is being held in Iowa City (U of Iowa, not Iowa State in Ames).
