All NCAA teams should have Offical Facebook Fan pages to help fans keep up with current news & events. Even fan pages with no information, are better than
no fan pages. They are low maintenance and vital in today's wired world. Those facebook groups serve little to no purpose. Fan pages are extremely
important. Only a couple teams are utilizing this very important aspect of the web. UCLA, Pitt, LSU, Maryland, TWU, UT, Ohio St., Ariz St., Illinois, Texas
St., Wasington and Oregon St. are the only ones I could find. Fan them to show your support. Post here if other teams have a facebook FAN PAGE. (like I said
facebook Groups are near worthless).

I'm actually from Minnesota (huge Gophers fan), and I can tell you they don't have a facebook FAN page. They have a couple of those facebook groups (fb
groups are worthless and have no value).

Oddly, UGA chose to add themselves as a 'user' that you can 'friend'. I don't know the whys and wherefores between making a 'user',
a 'group' (though seemingly anyone can do this one), and a 'fan page'. JAYMEDINC, could you expound on why you want them to have 'fan
pages'?

The difference between groups and fan pages on facebook are this: Groups on facebook are used for alumni and situations like that. For them to go into and post photos. Doing things such as reminiscing. Fan pages are used by businesses and organizations to keep everyone posted on things that have happened and things that are coming up. If you have "fanned" any businesses or organizations on facebook, you should notice that you receive periodic updates and notices about anything and everything. If you joined a facebook group, you will notice nothing. Because nothing happens unless you physically go back into that group to see if anything has happened. That is why these facebook groups aren't worth anything to the gymanstics community. To get value from facebook, gymnastics organizations need to do what businesses are doing. Officials of teams, clubs, boosters, and business MUST create a facebook FAN page (not a group titled a fan page), to keep everyone posted about what has happened and what is coming up. This is business 101 when it comes to facebook. The larger NCAA sports organizations have caught on and are using this very well. It is time the gymanstics teams catch on. Here is the link on facebook to get your gymastics organization on the right track (if you are an official of the organization, not to be run by the fans
ourselves):
The title you create for this page should just be the team or organization name. Not "fans of so and so". It becomes the organization's official page, and you will notice it helps the organization more than any other source of social networking. After a FAN page is created there, please post here to let us know your team or organization is ready to be "fanned" on facebook. |

Here is the official Minnesota Gophers facebook FAN page. ("Fan" it like I have, and you will soon see how these pages work). http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=ncaa+gymnastics&init=quick#/GopherAthletics?ref=nf
You will also see linked to it, the pages for the basketball team, volleyball team & soccer team. I hope to see the gymnastics teams listed there soon. |

Sorry, the official Kent State Golden Flashes facebook FAN page isn't run nearly as well as Minnesota's. But it is a start.
Fan it, and ask them to link the new Flashes gymnastics team's FAN page to it, after it is created. http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=kent+state+flashes&init=quick#/pages/Kent-State-University-Golden-Flashes/18168618921?ref=search&sid=1034287355.3725185313..1 |

Yes, it is completely wrong for the gymdogs to require you to add them as a friend on facebook. Because they can only have a max of 5000 friends. And friends
are people, not organizations anyway. Fan pages don't have a max. That probably won't come into play in this situation, but it is one of many
limitations. That person who created that page should change it to their name, and do it right by starting a fan page.
Apparently the fan pages are also run by fans, instead of the school. The whole things is done poorly at UGA. However, the baseball team is almost doing it right. Still a little sloppy and unprofessional, but much better than any other UGA fan page. Maybe the gymdogs can learn from this link: http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=georgia+bulldogs&init=quick#/pages/Georgia-Bulldogs-Baseball/89099015065?ref=search&sid=1034287355.2311703424..1 |

Judging sometime before the end of the year. This will give some incentive for the teams to create a quality page. It will help recruiting!! Who is interested? |

GoGophers wrote:Hello fellow Gophers fan! Please read below a couple threads, where I already answered this question in great detail. There are a bazillion Gophers facebook groups (non very big, or run very well). If you get anything from the Gophers in your facebook News Feed, it is actually from the fan page, not a group. The groups can send a message to your inbox, but not your news feed. |

Just a note: Most of the sites from Texas (University of Texas, Texas A & M University, Texas Tech and Texas State University) are those of University
Sport Clubs. These programs are not NCAA supported and get a small portion of the budget from general university funds, typically through the campus
recreation program. Students do fundraising projects to support themselves. These clubs are typically comprised of students who do club gymnastics but for
whatever reasons, talent , injury or interest, don't pursue scholarships. Most clubs compete but do so with a wide range of talent levels. The
competition season is also in the spring and they host state and national championships. These programs typically combine men's and women's
gymnastics.
I am the faculty sponsor of the program and Texas State University and this year the championships will be held at our university in San Marcos, TX. Off to get ready for tonight's meeting.

They really should change the name, to show the word Minnesota, and be easier to find in the facebook search engine. They should also have the main page link them like the other sports are linked to it. Other than that, very well done page. I now appologize for being adament in saying they don't have a page. |
