I'd love to hear from any other runners out there who have or want to do a marathon. I would not say I am addicted now, but it would be nice to do one a year now.

Whoo Hoo! I just had to share my excitement with you all. I finished my first marathon this weekend down at Disney. I have done a few half marathons but never a full. While at the registration expo, I saw a shirt that said something along the lines that "the race does not begin until mile 20". Boy, that was ever true. I have never experienced that wall of pain until about mile 22 when it took everything I had to keep on going. The only regret is that I was so relieved to be done; I really didn't get to enjoy everything of the last 1/2 mile of the race as the course made its way through Epcot to the very end. It was an amazing experience though.

Wow, man! That's awesome! Congrats!
I have been training since October for a 1/2 marathon in Atlanta and then a full one in Hawaii in December of '08. I developed some sort of hip problem and I don't think I'll be able to run (or even walk) the half marathon. My goal is to finish at least one marathon! |

Are you doing the ING in March? I am going to do the 1/2 then too. The Atlanta course is a little too hilly for me to do just yet.
I understand the hip problems. I have the same especially after training on hills for a while. Where do you run now? I usually run in the Decatur/Druid Hills area. |

Sorry, I just saw this two months later, ha! I was planning on running in the ING 1/2 Marathon this month. I run in the midtown area, usually through Piedmont
Park and sometimes in Va Highlands. I just recently saw my cardiologist who advised me not to run more than about 3 miles at a time until my heart strengthens
up. I had a tumor on my heart for a long time which caused a lot of damage. Tumor has been gone nearly a year, but still have some problems. :-/ Good luck in
the ING Marathon! I wish I could run in it!

I got out for my first long run since the Disney yesterday. I usually do a 12 to 13 mile loop from downtown Decatur, down to Peachtree and wind back through
Piedmont Park, VHighlands and Emory area. Thought I was going to get caught in some of the storms but only got stuck in rain for about 15 minutes. The 2 month
layoff from long runs was greatly felt. I was hurting by the time I got over to the UGA UCLA meet last night.

That is awesome. Running a marathon is such an accomplishment. Are you planning to run another?

Sure am. I did the ING half last weekend and was either going to do Toronto this fall or wait until next year and do the ING Full here in Atlanta next March. I might try for the Disney again next January or Miami next January. |

Great. I did one and I was happy to be done and never do another. I still run daily, but the marathon was just too much of a commitment. I think it is
awesome that you are so enthusiastic about your running. It sure has saved my sanity over the years.
